A Rich Past, Served With Style
Back in the day, Abbey House wasn’t just for us regular folk, it hosted dignitaries including King George V (then Prince of Wales), the Queen Mother (as Duchess of York), and even the Prince of Siam, who came down for ship launch celebrations and conferences. Fast forward to 1951 and it had become a home for the elderly under the council, rather less glamorous, but still part of the story. By the 1980s, it had fallen into disrepair, until the Kilroe family stepped in around 1986 and turned the place into the beautiful wedding venue we know today, with an extension added in the early 2000s that remains true to Lutyens’ elegant style.
