I had the pleasure of performing at The Alma Inn, Laneshawbridge for the new Mr & Mrs Hart this past weekend.
From the very outset this was going to be a special wedding for me as I had offered to play the music during the ceremony which meant that I would literally be at the wedding from the start. I actually got emotional as the bride descended the aisle with her father Stephen. Katie looked simply stunning and her choice of song to walk down the aisle to was ‘A Thousand Years’ by Christina Perry, a real tear jerker, Stephen then passed his daughter over to his soon to be new son-in-law Kevin.
Once the new Mr & Mrs Hart had been confirmed they returned down the aisle to rapturous applause to the sound of ‘All You Need Is Love’..one of those ‘you had to be there’ moments.
Drinks reception time and it was over to me. Whilst the guests were mingling and photographs were being taken I was busy singing some laid back tunes right in front of Grandma Jean, Billy and his daughter Esther. The looks on their faces were a picture, I don’t think for one moment they thought I was a singer, but I love it when that happens.
Wedding breakfast time and I had everyone upstanding for the entrance of the bride and groom. This wedding party were certainly a noisy bunch as they raised the roof as Katie and Kevin entered the room to a classic Sinatra tune.
One thing I’m good at is reading a room, that comes with experience, and from the feeling I got I could tell this bunch were up for a party so that’s what I gave them.
From the very first song people were up dancing, to the amazement of the staff who were trying to serve starters. From my duet with big Keith, to Joe and his amazing rendition of Copacabana, to my dedications to Stan & Rosalyn who I’m sure we’re smiling at us from above and showering us with a few Pennies From Heaven, and of course not forgetting the amazing Mr & Mrs Friend who dazzled us with some Strictly Come Dancing moves. The fun didn’t stop there as I politely informed people right in the middle of the song ‘Daydream Believer’ that I was a Burnley boy, I couldn’t resist as there was a huge Blackburn contingent in the room, this led to as you can imagine the lyrics in the song being changed, but it was all good fun.
When the time came to end my little part in the day I couldn’t think of a better tune to draw it to a close than a bit of Morecambe & Wise, this had the people who were already dancing on chairs reminiscing and singing along.
All in all this was an amazing day all round and I was honoured and privileged to play a small part in it. I’d like to wish Kevin & Katie all the very best for the future and thanks for the memories x
If anyone is looking for a Wedding Singer Burnley then give me a call 😉
